Our custom designed rails and  Aluminum Top Hat crossbars form a super strong, low foundation for your chosen roof top tent and Awning Combination. Capable of handling typical Hardshell Tent loads on Off road environments - The Tough Touring Racks are so low they help reduce wind noise while getting the  weight of the touring gear lower also helps reduce body roll and improve vehicle stability.

The Disco Once Piece Roof rails in that we supply are designed to allow pole less wing awnings to swing through their arc and be set up without fouling on the rear  Wind fairing - The front and rear slats are also pre drilled to accept our Pole less wing awning brackets, giving immense twist strength and a super stiff mount point for oversized wing awnings.

Heights overall of the Roof rails are 10 -20mm above the  highest point in the disco's roof skin,  the top hat bar planks add 33mm to that - with a safe estimate of total rack height being just 55mm high.

We would Reccommend Fitment of your awning directly to the side of the roof top tent where possible - As Clearances are tight on the Discovery and Lower Positioning of the awning can result in the awning being too low for taller people to stand under.

Some examples of reccommended fitment of awnings to tent are here - https://www.toughtouring.com.au/tent-to-awning-brackets

These Kits are also listed on our Website for sale here https://www.toughtouring.com.au/product-page/tough-touring-awning-brackets-to-suit-bundutec-bundutop

Tents are best to be fitted by adding two of the included Top hat bar planks to the rack (the Centre two) first, then mounting the other two top hat bar planks straight to the tent. The roof rack rails are designed to allow bolt up fittment from beside the vehicle. So easy install and removal of this rack is a big win for guys wanting to take the tent off and on often.

    Installation

Installation:Tips on Installation are here online in Video format - https://youtu.be/PlXv-3uHB30... (no printed instructions come with the rack)

    Adaptability:

The Roof racks have been designed by us to to  accomomodate awnings and roof top tents specifically without fouling on Vehicle wind fairings etc on most popular awning brands available toda

Our Vehicle Specific  'One Piece ' roof rail Kits for the vehicles above  follow the vehicles roof lines perfectly while positioning the rack precisely around foul points / Protruding wind fairings - they have been tested with most of the awning and tent combinations listed and are the closest possible fit we can achieve.

Widths of touring gear are really important, For example - If you are running a Bundutop Standard Tent 1350mm wide ) , and wish to run a pole less wing awning independently to the tent (Ie Fitted to the rack) Please choose the 1450mm Planks option  in the Product Options below. So that your tent will sit inside the Pole less awning brackets. You need to understand that in fitting roof tents behind awnings, its likely that you will have to also re-position tent latches as required.

Listed on the Store page are a pair of replacement  Slats to add to your roof rail while the tent is removed - You would typically require at least  4 slats to create a functioning roof rack.  (The Front and Rear Tough Touring Slats remain on the rails as  the tent is lifted off,  two slats would go up and off still fixed to the tent, So purchase an additional 2 slats  - Bolt them on while the tent is off, and fitted you would then have 4  slats back on the car for a functioning rack - (and no need to remove the awning...Which stays fitted to the front and rear tough touring slats.)  You could add up to 10 in total....

As Shown in the pictures above, the Universal Rails themselves are an excellent foundation for many other rack baskes, flat racks, mounting platforms... Customers are mounting all kinds of boxes and custom made gear to them, due to their versatility and nice strong low mount.
