Land Rover Discovery 3 & 4

Some confusion exists around the roof strength as it has a factory 70kg roof load rating, (more on this here) The Disco has 'hidden' 4 x M10 Bolt mounts each side.  The M10 Rack bolts are under The Factory tapped m6 Bolt and painted in..  When fitting heavy duty roof racks, the whole bolt can be removed to reveal the M10 tread beneath.. Some pics below bottom of page.

Tough Touring Components for the Discovery 3 and 4.

Discovery 1 & 2 are Listed here

Tough Touring builds Roof Racks and customised Dual Battery Systems for the Disco -

The Roof rack foot rails we manufacture sit 80mm further forward from the rear door than any other rack on the market - They have been designed this way so that pole less wing awnings cover the gap at the rear of the vehicle and stop the rain getting in. This Gap is also handy as a handhold when climbing into Roof top tents.

The RTT Rack Weighs in at just 24Kgs and sits just 20mm off the roof skin -The super low stance brings the mount height of RTT or your Touring gear lower than any other racks on the market -  helping minimise body roll and reduce wind noise. - Weve Just developed a a full Platform rack  Version of these low profile racks, and it sits just as low, More on the Touring Platform Roof rack for Discovery 3 and 4 here

Installing a Dual Battery System in a Disco

If you want to run a fridge in the Disco - The Back seat behind the driver can be folded flat and happens to be exactly the same size as a 40L Engel Fridge. You can mount the fridge straight to where that seat was, forward behind the drivers seat with easy access to drinks etc via the rear drivers side door.

There is a Lifepo 4 Battery that fits perfectly under the flush fold seats!

Tough touring imports a slimline 100Amphr Lifepo 4 battery that fits perfectly under the Disco 3 Flush Folding  rear passenger seats - you can fit a battery under each seat out of the way in there. Its such a perfect fit you don't even need clamps.

The Battery that fits perfectly is listed here - AGA 'Forever powered' 100amphr Lifepo 4...

If you want to up the power to a  240Volt Inverted unit - we build

Renewable Power stations that will blow your mind / More on Forever Powered  'RPS' 3000w Power station systems  here â€‹

Fitting a Pole Less Wing awning to a Disco

If you're wanting to fit  poleless awnings to your existing roof rack without a tent:

Tough Touring Awning to rack brackets allow fitment of Most quality 270 Degree Swing out  poleless awnings to common platform and basket touring racks like the Rhino Pioneer, Front runner slimline 2 and ARB base.  There is a huge range available for almost any rack on the market listed on our 'Awning brackets page'

If You want to fit a Pole Less awning to your rack and your running an ABS/ Plastic / Chinese Manufactured or Fibreglass Tent

Composite tents (Plastic, Fibreglass) and many lower profile tents cant handle the twist forces of pole less awnings... If you want to run an awning with one of these type of tents you have to mount the awning to the rack, then mount the tent independently... Its a tricky install requiring a much wider rack and 'cupping' brackets to make it work. This type of Install is is called "Independent awning and Tent to rack installation" and more information on this can be found here -  in particular watch the video on the page.

Land Rover Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 (all models) have  M10 Bolt Studs painted into the roof Once the Plastic rails are removed - You will see that on the Top of the M10 Bolt, a hole has been drilled and tapped out to an M6 Thread - Most likely so that lightweight roof racks with tiny bolts could be fitted.
To Remove the useless m6 bolt, Use a 13mm Socket - Tap it carfully over the bolt till it fits it tightly... Then Gently Undo the bolt anticlockwise to unbind the bolt from the paint - Once the paint cracks off, unscrew it completely and replace it with a new M10 Heavy duty bolt. (Included in our Roof rack kits)
