Tough Touring Patriot Campers Roof Rack Conversion

The Tough Touring Roof Rack for Patriot was designed to :

* Increase Patriots Storage space - Providing a 1900 x 1450mm Tray underneath your tent for gear... (Firewood,  Chairs and Tables)

* Allows for the Addition of a Quality Hard Shell Roof top tent in lieu of the Fold out Patriot tent - to speed up set  up and pack up time and get rid of drying canvas after trips.

* The Rack Height gives the ability to install a rapid set up and pack down awning, totally pole less without need for lifting arms. Meaning that the Pole less awning can also be improved/ upgraded to something less prone to flopping about in wind.

Tough Touring Builds 4 Versions of this popluar Touring Upgrade for Patriot Trailers.

Installation Variations for the Tough Touring Roof top tent racks for Patriot Campers newer models.

The Install of the Tough Touring Camper trailer rack is simple but quite time consuming. In the Case of the X1 and X2 Models The Existing Patriot Tent needs to be removed, and its rivetted points on the patriots lid sealed and caulked. Many customers opt to also remove the Lifting Awning arms at this point also.

Typically a 1500mm Wide Aluminium Chequerplate sheet is added to conceal the old rivet holes and add a nice /durable skid surface to the trailer top.

The Tough Touring Rack is then Through Bolted to the checkerplate / trailer top at 1500mm width, allowing a 100mm shelf each side of the trailer sides.

The X1N and The X2N Patriot Trailer Models have a small/ low Factory Roof rack already fitted  to the trailer, and the Tough Touring Rack for these models picks up the side bolts of the factory rack - no drilling - and simply bolts on.  (The rack reaches right to the trailer top for more strength).

Sorting out Patriots Lack of 12volt power

Our take on how to keep the fridge and accessories running while touring..

The Standard batteries in the Patriot will only run the fridge a couple of days - before requiring plugging back into mains. The DCDC chargers built in to the existing redarc system top up batteries while driving, ranging from 15Amps in per hour up to 40Amps on later models,

To put it into perspective, 3 hours driving will give you around a day of fridge power.

If you use lights or the inverter to charge phones, etc - its really difficult to stay powered if your on the move and using electric chainsaws for firewood / boiling a kettle / running the fridge and some lights.

HOW TO FIX IT

To Upgrade the Patriots Renewable Energy Supply -  Its best to LEAVE the Patriots Existing Red Arc built in Power systems as it is - (keeping the trailer origional for resalel) - and instead upgrade your 4wd/Tow Vehicle to include an inverter / DCDC and Solar power to Capture the energy - (A Truck is a massive generator that can be parked in the sun regardless of your campsite/ trees)

Whats inside the Patriot already is best left alone

The 240V charger inputbuilt into the patriot from factory  is the most reliable and powerful input charger on the trailer. It renews the Patriots battery supply quickly and automatically switches to 'Supply Mode' when your batteries are full. Its good gear. Leave it there.

To Upgrade your Truck

Tough Touring Designed RPS 3000 Power stations which are mounted inside the Tow vehicles, We use them to power Camper trailers and caravans - the 15Amp 240V oulet plug plugs 240V power straight into the patriots 'Shore power ' lead - The Patriot just thinks its plugged into a regular power point - like a caravanan park power supply...

The RPS 3000 Units we build  have been popular with Patriot owners because they don't mess with the existing trailers power set ups at all... Its all seperate.

And it powers them up daily. Allowing reliable power wherever you are that never runs out. If you want to travel further / longer. More Information on  our RPS 3000 Renewable Power Stations here.

Adding Solar Power to The Patriot Camper

With the addition of the 'Tough touring Patriot roof rack " and a hardtop rooftop tent The Patriot has the perfect platform to install big houshold solar panels ontop.

Household panels run at twice the efficiency of RV panels, and this huge upgrade in power can be added to the Patriots Batteries via an upgraded Solar Regulator. We use Victron 30/100 Regulators to achieve up to 30 amps of solar power into the batteries an hour.

Tough Touring also Builds Solar Panel Mounting kits for household panels - and also RV panels. The Choice is yours

Som more information on this here - some people run 2 x 160w panels on the roof of the tent for around 15famps of power into the patriot, - others go for the household power upgrade and get more like 30amps... Both weigh about the same.
