Setting up the Disco 1 & 2 for Touring or Hardcore Wheeling
The Land Rover Discovery 1 and 2 is a super capable / economic touring 4wd. ITs also heaps of fun to wheel hard. Enough of that! As proper disco enthusiasts weve worked on improving comfort on the tracks in particular carrying essential gear - Its challenges are off camber stability, small storage space and a short wheelbase. I am particularly excited about the little 'Wheeling' racks Ive started building now... They carry dirty gear, awning, chaisaw and add little weight to the roof... More below.
Tough Touring Roof racks can be ordered as a short / Lightweight 'Half' rack - or Full length Roof Top Tent Rack - or as a Full Touring Platform Roof rack
for the Land rover discovery 1 and Discovery 2 Touring Platform is slotted on every surface allowing for addition of touring accessories with maximum versatility - Tough Touring Manufactures Awning Brackets for this Platform Rack that bolt on and can handle even the largest pole less wing awnings More on the Platform Rack itself here

The Roof top tent mounting Rack Option
The Lowest Profile Roof top tent mounting foundations on the market today. The Tough Touring Roof top tent racks are designed to keep the weight on the roof as low as possible, , while maintaining strength and ease of install and tent removal. - More on these here

Recommended 'Touring' Upgrades for Discovery 1 and 2:
-
Offroad 'Touring' - Roof tents - We reccommend choosing a Canvas walled Load bearing Roof top tent for the Disco as storage space inside the Disco is so tiny that its critical to be able to carry wood and gear on the roof of the tent or longer touring. Tents like the Tuff Trek Mk3 can carry heaps of bedding inside and double as a roof rack
-
Heavily Modified discovery vehicles -If your using the Disco for tough offroad wheeling - weight on the roof is so undesirable that we designed a 12kg half rack that carries an Awning, chainsaw, Recovery gear and Max trax - Game changer to get this dirty stuff out of the truck and have some shelter over swags.
 -
Awnings: Your chosen awning should have a zip on wall kit option that is good in wind, and your awning needs to be light and easy to set up pack up - so our first choice is Ostrich Poleless 270 degree awning. more on all awnings on the shortlist here
I personally run the Ostrich Junior on my truck with a set of walls - At just 18 Kgs and real canvas the add major comfort to my swag accommodation and still keep everything light.
 -
Tyres: - Get some heavy duty 8+ ply sidewall off road tyres while your at it, these will help reduce body roll. + 300Kg Rear coils add enormous handling improvements. 265 x 75 x 16 are a great size. Especially with the Roof weight and rear bar increasing vehicles weight.
-
Rear Bar - Again storage is premium, a good rear bar can Carry your water and spare wheel off the rear door as the standard disco hinges fail quickly if larger wheels / tyres or gear is hung off it. If your doing challenging 4wd work, Get a rear bar that integrates the Hitch reciever as the stock one is too low and get hung up constantly.
-
PLATFORM Roof Racks : As Light and low as possible - Especially handy if your towing a camper trailer... All the crap that doesn't fit in the trailer will have somewhere to live. We build a Versatile Aluminium m8 slotted rack at 1400mm x 2100 for max gear carrying ability - Check out our tough touring platform here - It allows you to customise the gear you carry each trip.
