The Tough Touring  Land Rover Discovery 1 and 2 Short 1/3 Wheeling rack weighs in at a mere 15 kgs, The Rack can be optioned to include a front awning support leg , rear hook bracket and Rear Triangulation bracket set that clamps onto the gutter / supported by the A Pillar to carry pole less 270 wing awnings without need of a full sized Roof rack.

The Short Rack Kit  (15Kgs) consists of:
2 x twin gutter clamped roof rails  850mm long each side
2 x Aluminium cross planks (for carrying Max trax, recovery gear, chainsaws, Jerry cans etc.)
2 x Aluminium Plates to form Max trax holder
Fitting Nuts, Bolts and Hardware
 
The Awning Bracket OPtion adds 6kgs: 
1 x Front A Arm Pillar Awning Bracket
1 x Awning Fixing plate
1 x Rear Awning Triangulation Bracket
1 x Awning Hook Bracket
Additional Nuts and Bolts.
 
 
The rack iteslf when mounted sits 10mm off the roof skin - it is as Low, Light and Strong as we can build it, It utilises the Landrovers Gutter Rails for easy fittment. 
 
The Beauty of the design is that the typical loaded weight with hardcore offroad essentials carried outside the vehicle including a light weight pole less awning and max trax can be 45Kgs  or less. 
 
The Disco's rear bumper allows a step to easily access dirty recovery gear and also keep fuels etc outside the vehicle without need of a full rack.
 
No other system has been designed in the world that is as low / simple or as strong that addresses the Discovery 2 weaknesses, and enhances the carrying capabilities without sacrificing off road  wheeling performance... For all you Disco nutcases that want total performance offroad - This design has been rattling around in my head through various incarnations for about 20 years...
 
Ive added the awning mount to the kit as over time Ive learnt that its worth its weight in gold to have a fast set up awning to camp under,  Comfort levels with a basic swing out awning just works, keeping heat / moisture off swags, and somewhere to get out of shitty weather.

 The Tough Touring Racks  sit so low they help reduce vehicle body roll and wind noise - they also improve vehicle stability. 
 
The Discovery swing out rear Tailgate door allows foul free fit up of popular wing awnings, and our rack allows the 270 awnings to be correctly positioned  to  cover the gap between the awning and the door to keep the rain OUT.

All parts cut in Australian MILD Steel, or aluminium SandBlasted for Maximum Paint Bond  and Powdercoated in Black Dulux Textura for ultimate durability and rust resistance.
