Tough Touring has manufactured bracket systems capable of handling trussedPole Less wing awnings for Composite shell - Pop top campers Such as the MDC XT 11, 12,15, The Eezi Trail, Jawa, Windsor, Parkes and other Hybrid pop top campers . Loads exerted by twist forces on awning are triangulated along the pop tops joining structure giving the Awning immense strength. The Brackets are designed to Prioritise Awnings to'Fail first' minimising potential damage to the camper walls in the event of extreme and unexpected wind damage.

This Bracket set suits the majority of larger Pole Less awnigns - Bushwakka Meg, and All Supa Peg Awnings that can be suitable for these Hybrids - Where this kit is different is that it inclides a back plate lengthing plate to allow shorter awnings to make it to the triangulation brackets.
This negates the requirement that the awning has to be 190mm longer than the pop tops roof - HOWEVER
The Pop top Hybrid needs to have a rain channel or up channel bracket fitted to the camper for this bracket kit to work - as the Back plate extension bolts to the rain channel, Typically this is the ONLY place it can be bolted as there is not enough space between the Pop top and the back of the awning to add a central support bracket. Every trailer is different, please measure and check carefully .
The Ideal Awning to marry up to this bracket set would have to be the Supa Peg Sheild 6. It is the easiest to set up and pack down, Its only 2.7m long when packed - so that awning and this bracket set would suitable for trailers under 3.3m long ONLY - and Only if they also have a Rain Channel bracket already fitted.
WHY - Fittment of 'Wrap around' - freestanding pole less awnings.Pole Less wing awnings tend to be really fast to put up and put down. (a minute or so)...
No heavy lifting is required.
ABOUT the Brackets
The Brackets do not foul on any of the tested variants of this chinese built trailer, so far tested on MDC 12, 13, Mars 13 Campers , Windsor and and many other name varieties. Longer trailers can be fitted with this bracket kit with longer awnings too...
The Brackets are fixed via Rivnuts (Nutserts) to the inset / Top edge of the pop tops Flush Steel Frame - and are triangulated for strength and bracing either way along the edge of the pop tops shutting /seal surface.
The Extension plate is bolted at 4 points each end and 2 in the Centre to the rain gutter angle. The Rain Gutter needs to be at least 110mm high to bolt up to the extension plank. Lower rain gutters may need inventive methods to find new bolting points.
ONCE FITTEDZero flex through the brackets is present. Shear testing is far in excess of the awnings structure (Meaning if the wind gets under the awning, the awning will fail, not the camper).
Fitting is fairly straightforward with 6 x M8 Nuterts each end fixing the brackets. No Requirement for any fixings on the visible side walls of the camper as these are made of a composite filled with styrene (No strength there).
PLEASE NOTE: These Brackets require the rear of all swing around 270Awnings to be overhanging the rear so they can indeed swing around !!! Dont forget this during the install...
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR TRAILERS ROOF LENGTH
Calculations on awnings sizes are as follows:
Measure exacltly the roof line edge of the campers pop top. For example - the MDC 12 measured here measures exactly 3020mm from outside edge to outside edge of the pop tops roof -
If intending to fit a 360 Degree wrap around awning - The awnings back plate must allow the swing around arms to 'cup' around the trailer and thus must have their pivot point at least 20mm each end WIDER than the trailer + an allowance for The Securing Bolts to fit the awning via the 'outside' the trailers body....
EXAMPLE OF ROOF MEASUREMENT REQUIREMENT WHEN BUYING AWNING.
for example - If your Camper Roof line measurement is 3m - You need to order your awning at 3.190m or 3.2m if thats all they sell...
The Reasons for the 100mm odd overlap each end requirement below:
In testing we have noted that if you want to raise the MDC roof one end at a time - angles exerted by a single person lift on the roof pushes the roof aft and or forward, requiring a 80mm GAP to be left at each end of the trailer. We have added this into our bracket systems so that a single person roof lift is possible.
Awning Bolts need to be accessable from beside the vehicle - (Rather than through the walls) - so the awning brackets hang outside the vans body and have just enough steel around the bolt hole to take a socket/spanner and washer.Just in case you want to ask why - because "she'll be right' simply wont be. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to CUP any smaller awning around a van - It has to be a minimum of 190mm longer than the van overall...
Measure carefully . Vans will need straight lifting roofs (Good gas struts and springs) to be able to open single handedly without rubbing on brackets .
INCLUSIONS:
The Kit comes complete with a tube of Sikkaflex automotive sealant, Nutserts and Bolts for fixing off the brackets, 15m of Self adhesive insulation strip - 4 Large Laser cut and Powdercoated Black brackets with two Tough Touring Logo plates rivetted on.4 x 50mm Dome Nut Bolts for awning are also included along with 4 Nyloc bolts and washers.
2 Drivers side hook brackets,
2 end of camper Face Triangulation brackets 'Mirrored;
2 Face Brackets and
1 Central Supporting bracket (May not be required but included anyway)

FOOT NOTE:
To achieve required anti - twist strength - tough touring brackets triangulate back along the pop tops body to 'brace' the awning against lifting in wind along the front and rear ends of the van. This is achieved by the 'wrap around' design of the bracket system used.
If this is not possible as the awning you've purchased is too short - DO NOT TRY TO FIT THE AWNING - You are far better off selling the awning and buying the right length ...ALL 180 and 360 awnings will fit up to the "Outfold Hybrid bracket" as long as they are 190mm LONGER than the pop tops roof...
WATER RUN OFF and WHAT TO DO WITH EXISTING BRACKET
Many Campers have an Aluminium rain Gutter fitted behind the rubbish awning they come with ...THIS IS ESSENTIAL FOR USE WITH THIS AWNING BRACKET SET> KEEP IT. Its also handy- really makes a difference to water run off.
Existing brackets on the trailer can typically stay on there. Don't try to remove them. they can be handy for additional anti bounce bracing. You will find that cutting them off with an angle grinder melts the wall internally and makes a simple job a terrible one.
If your trailer does not have any guttering - Additional Guttering to prevent water running down the walls can be fitted. At Time of writing Tough Touring DOES NOT SUPPLY THE GUTTER, (we make brackets) - its also massivly long and difficult to post... So source this locally.. A bit of angle in aluniuminiu / plastic or rubber would do it... Install it after the awning is on so you can measure it up. Weve done it successfully with a tube of sikkaflex and a long piece of Aluminium Angle 50x50.
