Tough Touring has started machining up its own 1311317 RH Camshaft Pulley for land rover and ford V6 Diesel engines - Progress !!!!

So - my first blog and im a bit excited! Who would have thought I could jot down my daily triumphs and disasters for the world - and A.I would find you all to share. Rova Range Mechanics asked us If we could manufacture these - after a shit run with a heap of their clients trucks having these pulley wheels break off at the spokes and cause catastrophic damage. Having just put a new TDv6 into my own Disco 4, (440,000Kms on the first one) - I didn't want to see the new motor die prematurely either...

Turns out the camshaft pulleys are a difficult bit of kit to make, We've started with 40mm thick 450 grade hardenend steel sheet, It weighs about 4 tonne per sheet. Then cut it into 150 x 150mm squares, then after a lot of measuring of the failed (cast steel) Ford one, Designed a new unit using Auto cad thats around 15 times stronger - Ive given it a 8mm billet steel face - Left heaps of metal around all the access adn bolt holes, and then CNC cut it before a lathed machining process to get it neat.

The Teeth are cut with a plasma Laser, expensive process, but worth it as the cuts are so clean they didnt need linishing.

The First Unit was installed into my 2006 range rover sport around 2 months ago, the car is currently driven by all family members , (including my heavy footed P Plate daughter...) 10,000Kms in were about to pull it all down and check for any sign of Belt wear / unknown stuff.... Always pays to test and test again.

Will update further when the truck gets its check over...
